Ahmedabad Housing Board Raid Seizes 2,736 Liquor Bottles

Ahmedabad Police seized 2,736 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor from houses in the Krishnanagar Housing Board area and arrested three alleged local bootleggers, according to a report by Sandesh. Police said the liquor had been brought from Rajasthan concealed in parcels described as consignments of old clothes.

The Krishnanagar police action was carried out after officers received specific information about liquor being stored in residential Housing Board premises. During the search, police found boxes containing bottles of different brands. The total seizure was recorded as 2,736 bottles.

The raid has highlighted how residential units can be used as temporary storage points in illicit supply networks. In this case, the premises were allegedly being used as a concealed warehouse rather than for ordinary household use. The available report does not specify whether the houses were occupied by the accused, rented to them or being used with the knowledge of other residents.

Police arrested three people identified as Nitesh Shah, Jay alias Dadu Pawar and Kishan Shah. The report said the three were allegedly managing the local distribution network. Their arrests followed the recovery of the liquor stock from the Housing Board premises.

During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told police that the consignment had been sent from Rajasthan by a supplier identified as Omprakash Bishnoi. The police account, as reported by Sandesh, said the bottles had been packed inside bundles and parcels of old clothes and transported by road. The concealment method was allegedly intended to avoid detection by police and checkposts.

Krishnanagar police registered a case under various provisions of the Prohibition Act and began further legal proceedings. Investigators are questioning the arrested men about the Ahmedabad-based local sellers who were supposed to receive the consignment. The report does not provide details of the exact value of the seized liquor or the number of residential units searched.

Police have formed a team to locate the alleged Rajasthan-based supplier and investigate whether a transport agency was involved in moving the consignment. The next stage of the investigation will focus on identifying the intended distribution network, establishing the role of the alleged supplier and determining how the parcels reached the Housing Board premises.

The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing campaign against the illegal movement of liquor in Gujarat ahead of Navratri and Diwali, according to the report. Further action will depend on the police investigation and the legal proceedings against the arrested accused.
