Delhi Police Arrests Three CJP Leaders Under Preventive Action

Delhi Police has arrested three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), including founder Abhijit Dipke, spokesperson Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, after registering a case under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to a report by Jagran, the three were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport after arriving in Delhi by air from Mumbai on Saturday morning. They were subsequently kept at separate locations by the police.

The leaders are scheduled to be produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Delhi Cantonment after noon. The court may decide whether they should be released on bail after obtaining bonds or sent to custody, depending on the proceedings and the court’s assessment.

The police action has been described as preventive in nature. Under the provisions cited in the report, authorities can act when they believe that failing to restrain a person could create a risk to public peace or lead to a cognisable offence. Sections 126 and 170 are applied when police assess the potential risk as particularly serious, the report said.

The provisions allow the court to seek a bond from the individuals, setting out their obligations regarding future conduct. If the court is satisfied with the bond, the individuals may be released on bail. If it is not satisfied, they may be sent to custody, according to the report.

The arrests come amid a planned CJP demonstration in Delhi. A related traffic advisory cited in the report referred to calls to gather at Jantar Mantar, indicating that the police action is connected to preparations for a public protest in the capital. The report did not provide details of the alleged conduct that led to the arrests beyond the preventive-action provisions invoked by the police.

Preventive proceedings of this kind place the executive magistrate at the centre of the immediate process, rather than treating the matter only as a conventional criminal investigation. The court’s decision on the bonds and custody will determine the next formal step for the three leaders.

The three leaders were expected to be presented before the Delhi Cantonment court later on Sunday, with the court to decide whether to release them on bail or order further custody.
