Noida Police Tighten Delhi Border Checks, Traffic Jams Follow

Noida police are continuing strict checks at Delhi border crossings after a planned protest at Jantar Mantar, with Section 163 restrictions in force across Gautam Buddh Nagar until October 20 and commuters facing delays on routes into Delhi.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate remained on alert from early Saturday in view of the protest linked to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). According to Navbharat Times – Noida, police checked more than 5,000 vehicles travelling from Noida towards Delhi. Personnel were deployed at the Chilla border, Kalindi Kunj, Jhundpura and Darshan Chowki, among other points adjoining the national capital.

The enforcement is expected to continue at the Noida-Delhi border. Vehicles are being checked before being allowed to proceed, creating the possibility of delays for people travelling between the two cities for work, education, healthcare and other daily needs. The report said police had prepared to stop people travelling from Noida towards Delhi and detain them if necessary in response to the protest situation.

The restrictions have already affected road capacity at key crossings. At the Chilla border, Delhi Police placed barricades and closed two lanes, leaving only one lane operational. The reduced capacity led to congestion at several locations in Noida during the checking operation. The report said the impact of the protest itself was not directly visible across Noida, but the preventive security arrangements disrupted traffic movement.

The action follows statements by CJP leader Abhijit Dipke and other office-bearers that their road-based agitation would continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns. The organisers also indicated that participants would travel towards Jantar Mantar on Sunday, prompting Noida police to maintain heightened alert arrangements.

Section 163 has also been imposed in the district until October 20. The report did not provide the full text of the order or detail all restrictions applicable under it, but said the measure was part of the police response to the planned mobilisation. The continuing order means that enforcement at border points will remain a live issue for residents and commuters during the period covered by the restriction.

Police have also deployed two teams to monitor information and activity related to the protest on social media. In addition, surveillance has been extended to schools, colleges, universities and paying-guest accommodation, according to the report. These measures indicate that the response is not limited to traffic management at border crossings but includes monitoring of possible mobilisation points within the district.

For commuters, the immediate effect is concentrated at the crossings connecting Noida with Delhi, where lane closures, vehicle checks and possible stoppages can lengthen journeys. The police deployment and restrictions are scheduled to remain in place as authorities monitor the planned protest activity and movement towards Jantar Mantar.
