Delhi Police have arrested four men over a viral video that allegedly shows students being assaulted and women being pushed and hit during the Cockroach Janta Party protest on October 10. The incident took place on DDU Marg in central Delhi, under the jurisdiction of Kamla Market Police Station.
The arrested men have been identified as Raman Saini, 50, Vivekanand alias Vivek, 32, Kapil Kumar, 27, and Ravinder Singh alias Govind Hindu, 35. A senior police official said the four accused claimed to be members of the right-wing Hindu Raksha Dal.
The video began circulating on social media on October 10, when students were attempting to gather at different locations during the protest. The footage initially circulated through social media groups, but the precise location was not immediately established by the police.
According to police sources, security personnel deployed during the protest later identified the location as DDU Marg during verification and checks. The footage purportedly shows young students being hit and pushed, while women are also seen facing physical aggression. A police officer appears to be present as the incident unfolds, according to the report.
A senior police official said no formal complaint had been filed in connection with the incident. However, Delhi Police reportedly received confidential inputs that the accused might attempt to leave the Delhi-NCR region and go into hiding. Police then took suo motu action, traced the four men and arrested them.
The arrests come amid widespread detentions linked to the CJP protest and the circulation of several videos from the demonstrations. The incident has drawn attention to the management of public protests, the protection of participants and the role of police personnel at crowded urban gathering points.
The video was shared widely on social media, including by accounts associated with political organisations and student groups such as the Indian Youth Congress, the All India Students’ Association and the Cockroach Janta Party. Political figures and organisations also posted allegations about the conduct of police and other individuals visible in the footage, though those claims were not independently established in the supplied report.
The Delhi Police action was initiated without a formal complaint, based on the video, location verification and confidential inputs cited by the senior police official. Further legal proceedings and the police investigation will establish the circumstances of the alleged assaults and the roles of those arrested.
