A new STEM laboratory has been inaugurated at CM Shri School in Janakpuri, giving students access to practical, technology-based learning under a partnership involving the Delhi government, the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation and Sportskeeda.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood and former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan inaugurated the facility on Saturday. The laboratory has been established under the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation’s STEM Shiksha initiative, with corporate social responsibility support from Sportskeeda.
The inauguration was held as part of the Delhi government’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The facility is intended to help students learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics through practical activities, experimentation and technology-enabled instruction rather than relying only on conventional classroom teaching.
Sood said the laboratory would help students move beyond textbook-based learning and prepare for future opportunities. “STEM Labs are an important step in this direction, enabling students to move beyond textbook learning and learn through experience, exploration and experimentation,” he said.
The Janakpuri laboratory also marks the expansion of the foundation’s Digital Shiksha programme, which focuses on improving access to technology-enabled education in government schools. The initiative places a private foundation and CSR-backed facility within a government-school setting, with the Delhi government supporting its implementation.
Dhawan, chairperson of Da One Group and founder of the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, said the programme was intended to make technology-based education accessible to more students. He also thanked the Delhi government for supporting the STEM Shiksha initiative.
The announcement does not specify the laboratory’s equipment, student capacity, operating schedule or the number of schools covered under the wider programme. It also does not set out a timeline for additional laboratories. The immediate next step is the use of the new facility at CM Shri School as part of the STEM Shiksha and Digital Shiksha initiatives.
