Delhi Traffic Advisory: Protest May Disrupt 30 Key Routes Today

Delhi Traffic Police has warned of traffic diversions at around 30 key locations on Sunday as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) plans another march towards Jantar Mantar, with restrictions likely to affect Connaught Place, Central Delhi and routes used by passengers travelling to railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and the airport.

The advisory was issued late on Saturday after Ajinkya Shinde announced at a CJP press conference that the organisation would march to Jantar Mantar again. Delhi Traffic Police said diversions could be introduced from 6 am on Sunday, depending on ground conditions, and that restrictions would be adjusted in real time according to the movement and intensity of the protest.

The likely affected areas include Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Patel Chowk and several major intersections in Central Delhi. The advisory lists the Ashoka Road–Jantar Mantar Road roundabout, Tolstoy Marg–Janpath crossing, Jai Singh Road–Parliament Street crossing, Rail Bhawan roundabout, Patel Chowk, Gol Dak Khana and multiple junctions around Connaught Place among the locations where traffic movement may be regulated.

Other areas identified by the traffic police include Mandi House, the Minto Road–Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg junction, the Lodhi Road flyover, Neela Gumbad roundabout, Samrat Hotel roundabout, the Sardar Patel Marg–Panchsheel Marg crossing, and the underpasses below the Bhikaji Cama Place and Moti Bagh flyovers.

The traffic police have advised people to avoid travelling if their journey is not essential. Commuters heading through New Delhi and Central Delhi towards railway stations, inter-state bus terminals or the airport have been asked to leave with additional time because route restrictions may be imposed or expanded as conditions change.

The advisory says traffic arrangements will be reviewed in real time. Restrictions may therefore be reduced or increased during the protest, depending on the situation on the roads. Delhi Traffic Police has asked commuters to follow its social media platforms for live updates before and during their journeys.

The planned march comes amid continuing protests by the CJP and student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India. According to the report, these groups have announced that demonstrations will continue until their demands are addressed. At the CJP press conference, Shinde said marches to Jantar Mantar would continue until Gyanesh Kumar is removed as Chief Election Commissioner.

Shinde also alleged that Delhi Police had treated CJP convenor Abhijit Dipke and other protesters in an inhumane manner during detention. The allegation was reported as a statement made at the press conference; the supplied report does not include a response from Delhi Police on it.

The immediate operational decision for commuters will depend on traffic police assessments on Sunday morning. Travellers using Central Delhi routes have been advised to check live updates and allow extra time for their journeys.
