Telangana plans to establish a centre of excellence for micro, small and medium enterprises to support technology adoption, market access and investment linkages, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said at an MSME conference in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The proposed centre will focus on promoting products made in Telangana in national and international markets, according to the Minister. The announcement was made while inaugurating the LUB MSME South India Summit, organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana).
Mr. Sridhar Babu said the State government was also planning to organise a monthly MSME grievance day. The proposed mechanism is intended to provide enterprises with a regular forum to raise operational issues and facilitate their resolution.
The initiatives are part of the State’s broader effort to strengthen support for MSMEs through a dedicated policy, the Minister said. He described the sector as important to industrial development and to the livelihoods of millions of families.
The proposed centre of excellence is expected to bring together support related to technology, market access and investment connections. The Minister did not provide a timeline for its establishment, identify its proposed location or disclose the funding structure in the statement released after the event.
The announcement comes as the State government is also taking steps to improve industrial estates in and around Hyderabad, Mr. Sridhar Babu said. These estates provide the physical base for manufacturing and other industrial activity, and their condition has direct implications for the ability of smaller businesses to operate and expand.
The Minister called on MSMEs to improve product quality, adopt technology, develop skills and increase production capacity to remain competitive. The focus on these areas links the proposed institutional support with the operational challenges faced by smaller enterprises, although specific programmes and implementation details were not announced at the conference.
MSMEs occupy an important position in the urban economy because they connect industrial land and estates with employment, supply chains and local enterprise activity. In Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, improvements to industrial estates would therefore affect not only businesses but also the workers and families whose livelihoods depend on them.
The conference was attended by SBI Managing Director Ram Mohan Rao and Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana) representatives Y. Venkateswarlu, K. Narendra Nath Dutt and Om Anuj Khadelwal, among others, according to the Minister’s office.
The State government’s next steps will determine how the proposed centre of excellence is structured, where it is located, how enterprises access its services and when the monthly grievance day begins. No further implementation schedule was provided in the announcement.
