Telangana Plans MSME Centre in Push to Upgrade Industrial Estates

Telangana plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for micro, small and medium enterprises to support technology adoption, market access and investment linkages, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said in Hyderabad on October 10. The State government is also preparing a monthly grievance day for MSMEs to help resolve operational issues faced by enterprises.

The proposed centre will focus on helping businesses promote products made in Telangana in national and international markets, the Minister said while inaugurating the LUB MSME South India Summit organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana).

The announcement places MSME support within Telangana’s wider industrial infrastructure agenda. Alongside the proposed centre and grievance mechanism, the government is taking steps to improve industrial estates in and around Hyderabad, according to the Minister. These estates provide the physical base for manufacturing and other small-scale industrial activity, making their upkeep and administrative support important for enterprises operating in the city’s wider economic region.

Sridhar Babu said MSMEs played a vital role in industrial development and supported the livelihoods of millions of families. He also referred to a dedicated MSME policy initiated by the State government to strengthen and improve support for such businesses. The details of the proposed policy, including its financial provisions and implementation schedule, were not provided in the announcement.

The monthly MSME grievance day is intended to provide enterprises with a regular channel to raise problems and facilitate their resolution. The Minister did not specify when the mechanism would begin, which departments would participate or the timeline for resolving complaints.

The proposed Centre of Excellence is expected to address several areas identified by the government, including technology adoption, market access and investment linkages. The Minister also called on MSMEs to focus on product quality, technology adoption, skill development and production capacity to remain competitive.

For Hyderabad and the surrounding industrial areas, the measures combine enterprise support with improvements to industrial estates. However, the announcement did not specify the location, funding model, institutional structure or proposed completion date for the centre. It also did not identify the industrial estates scheduled for improvement or provide details of the grievance process.

The summit was attended by SBI Managing Director Ram Mohan Rao and Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana) representatives Y. Venkateswarlu, K. Narendra Nath Dutt and Om Anuj Khadelwal, among others, according to a release from the Minister’s office. The next formal steps will depend on the government’s announcement of the centre’s structure, the launch schedule for the monthly grievance day and details of the industrial-estate improvement programme.
