Chennai airport parking charges will increase from 1am on Sunday, with cars, vans, and larger vehicles paying higher rates while two-wheeler charges remain largely unchanged. The revised fees will apply at Chennai International Airport after authorities permitted a 5% increase under the existing parking contract.
For cars, parking for the first 30 minutes will cost Rs 90, up from Rs 85. The fee for a stay of more than 30 minutes and up to one hour will rise from Rs 110 to Rs 115. Parking a car for two hours will cost Rs 380, compared with the existing charge of Rs 360.
The increase is higher for longer stays. Cars parked for up to 24 hours will attract a revised charge that is Rs 110 higher than the current rate. Airport authorities last revised the parking charges in 2024.
Vans carrying up to 16 passengers will be charged Rs 345 for the first 30 minutes and up to Rs 1,155 for 24 hours under the revised schedule. Vehicles with more than 16 seats will pay Rs 695 for the first 30 minutes, while the maximum charge for a 24-hour stay will be Rs 2,315.
Two-wheeler parking charges will remain largely unchanged, providing continuity for passengers and users who use motorcycles or scooters. The report did not specify a broad revision to the two-wheeler fee schedule.
A separate penalty will apply when a parking ticket is lost. Car owners will have to pay Rs 580 in addition to the applicable parking charge, while two-wheeler users will face a Rs 175 penalty along with the parking fee.
The entry fee for cabs and taxis picking up passengers will remain unchanged at Rs 45. This means commercial pick-up vehicles will not face an increase in the airport entry charge as part of the revised parking schedule.
Airport authorities said the contract governing parking operations allows a 5% increase in parking charges. The new rates take effect at 1am on Sunday.
