Jio AI Glasses Bring UPI Payments and Translation Beyond Phones

Jio has showcased AI glasses that can scan UPI QR codes, support voice-based payments and translate conversations between Indian languages, signalling a push to move everyday digital services beyond the smartphone. The personal AI wearables were presented at India Mobile Congress 2026 along with audio glasses and earphones.

The feature drawing the most attention is Scan & Pay. According to Jio, the camera glasses can scan a merchant’s UPI QR code while the user gives a voice command to initiate the transaction. Once the payment is confirmed, it is processed through the UPI system.

The payment facility uses UPI Circle, under which users can make transactions of up to ₹5,000 per transaction and ₹15,000 in a month. These limits are set under UPI Circle rules and are not specific to Jio’s glasses.

The proposed process removes several steps involved in a conventional mobile payment. A user would not need to take out a phone, unlock it, open a payment application and scan the QR code manually. Instead, the glasses combine camera-based scanning with voice interaction. Jio has not provided details in the supplied showcase report on commercial availability, pricing or the wider safeguards that will govern payments through the device.

The company also demonstrated live translation designed to help people speaking different Indian languages understand one another. A user can speak in one language while another person speaks in a different language, with the wearable devices handling the translation. Jio said the focus on voice and Indian languages is intended to make AI and digital services accessible through preferred languages rather than only through English-language interfaces.

Other features presented at the event include an AI voice assistant, AI note-taking and live cricket commentary. The note-taking function is designed to capture important points during meetings, while the commentary feature is intended to allow users to follow cricket matches while away from a phone screen.

The showcase places the glasses within a broader shift towards wearable computing, in which cameras, microphones and voice assistants are integrated into devices used in public and everyday settings. For Indian users, the combination of UPI, multilingual interaction and translation links the hardware to services that are already widely used through mobile phones.

Jio said its wearables are designed to improve productivity, expand access to knowledge and make routine tasks easier with AI. The company’s presentation focused on voice-based interaction, Indian-language support and the ability to act on user commands rather than simply provide answers on a screen.

The next details to establish are when the glasses will be commercially available, which UPI and account controls will apply in practice, and how users will confirm transactions before money is transferred. The supplied announcement does not specify a launch date or retail price.
