Delhi Protest Tightens Security as CJP Issues Peace Advisory

Delhi protest barricades and police security around Jantar Mantar

The Cockroach Janta Party has urged participants in its Delhi protest to remain peaceful, respect police barricades and avoid restricted areas, even as police detained around 200 people, including YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, ahead of the demonstration on Saturday.

The advisory was issued by the party on Saturday morning before the planned protest at Jantar Mantar. It asked participants not to engage in violence, physical confrontations, threats or intimidation, regardless of provocation, and warned against damaging public or private property.

The group specifically cautioned protesters against vandalism, stone-pelting, arson and the destruction of barricades, saying such actions could endanger lives and undermine the purpose of the protest. It also asked participants not to carry weapons, sticks, stones, inflammable substances or other objects that could be used to injure people.

The advisory comes amid heavy barricading across Central Delhi, particularly around Jantar Mantar, where the protest is scheduled to take place. Participants were told to follow lawful directions, remain within designated boundaries and not attempt to enter restricted areas. The party also asked them not to obstruct emergency services.

Police had detained around 200 protesters since the morning, according to the Indian Express report. Among those detained was Dhruv Rathee, who had arrived in the National Capital Region ahead of the protest and was detained from Sector 56 in Gurugram. The report did not provide details of the legal provisions under which the detentions were made.

The CJP advisory also addressed the recording and circulation of material from the protest. Participants were asked not to share unverified claims, misleading videos, rumours or messages that could incite panic or hostility. The party said incidents should be documented responsibly and only when it was safe and lawful to do so, without interfering with police duties or putting people at risk.

Protesters were further advised not to publish unverified allegations against individuals. The party said anyone encouraging violence, vandalism or unlawful activity should be reported to a designated CJP coordinator or, where safe, to the police.

The advisory included instructions for participants who may be detained while travelling to the protest site. It asked them not to physically resist, to ask for the reason for their detention and to seek legal assistance.

CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were scheduled to arrive in Delhi on a flight from Mumbai at around 10.20 am on Saturday, according to the report. The next steps will depend on the police arrangements around Jantar Mantar and the party’s conduct of the planned demonstration.
