Residents and motorists staged a protest in Hunsur by planting banana saplings in potholes on a badly damaged road near Kanaka Bhavan, demanding urgent repairs to the route used by people travelling to several surrounding residential layouts.
The protesters said the road has deteriorated to the point that commuters are being forced to navigate potholes and uneven surfaces. They alleged that repeated requests to officials for repairs had not resulted in action.
The road is also used by heavy vehicles travelling to the milk chilling plant operated by the Mysuru Milk Union, or MyMUL. Protesters said the movement of these vehicles was contributing to the formation and expansion of potholes. They demanded that MyMUL or the Hunsur City Municipal Council upgrade the road as a concrete cement road to reduce recurring damage.
Satya Foundation president Satyappa alleged that revenue collected from residents of the surrounding layouts had been misused. The allegation was made during the protest and was not accompanied by supporting documents in the report.
The protesters said the road’s condition was creating difficulties for people using two-wheelers, autos and other vehicles. The affected route serves residents travelling between the outer areas of Hunsur and nearby layouts, making its condition a daily concern for local traffic.
They also urged the local MLA to intervene and ensure that the road is rebuilt. The protest was attended by Rahul, president of the Auto Drivers and Owners Association, along with Harshith Kumar, Praveen, Vinay, Pradeep, Gopal, Arun, Ganesh Kumar, Pramod, Shashi and Swami Varadaraj, among others.
A memorandum was submitted to Sripad, a shirastedar in the Revenue Department. The representation sought attention to the damaged road and called for steps to provide a durable surface capable of handling regular heavy-vehicle movement.
The report did not specify the estimated cost of repairs, the length of the damaged stretch, or a deadline for work. It also did not record a response from the Hunsur City Municipal Council, MyMUL or the local MLA. The next step will depend on the response of the concerned authorities to the memorandum and the demand for a concrete road upgrade.
