CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained inside a flight at Delhi airport ahead of the party’s planned ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ protest, according to a report by Times of India. The detention came as police also detained protesters gathering for the demonstration and Gurgaon Police reportedly detained YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.
Videos and statements cited in the report showed Dipke challenging the personnel inside the aircraft and repeatedly saying that he had come to Delhi to be arrested. He alleged that Delhi Police had entered the flight to detain the leaders and described the action as undemocratic. These allegations have been attributed to Dipke and were not independently verified in the report.
During the detention, Dipke asked which case would be registered against him and called for senior officers to come forward. He also asked whether he could take his bag before leaving the aircraft. Some passengers and the detained leaders were reported to have chanted slogans including “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Inquilab Zindabad”.
The incident occurred ahead of a protest planned by the CJP at Jantar Mantar. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had urged supporters to gather at the designated protest location and said the movement would continue until the party’s demand for a corruption-free system was achieved. He described the demonstration as a campaign to protect democracy and secure the future of Gen-Z.
The reported detentions place renewed focus on how large demonstrations in central Delhi are managed before they reach designated protest zones. Jantar Mantar is one of the capital’s principal areas for public demonstrations, while restrictions around major transport facilities such as airports are enforced through security and policing arrangements. The report did not specify the legal provisions under which the leaders were detained or whether formal arrest procedures were initiated.
Das also alleged that Delhi Police had exposed his phone number while circulating documents linked to the party’s earlier protest and a letter denying permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar. He said he received more than 300 calls and several WhatsApp messages within an hour. He further alleged that the disclosure formed part of a possible coordinated campaign and criticised media organisations for publishing the documents without redacting his number.
The report also said that plain-clothes personnel from Gurgaon Police detained Rathee on Saturday morning after he allegedly declined advice not to attend the demonstration. The account described his detention as reported and did not provide details of the legal basis for the action.
The next official steps will depend on whether police issue a statement on the detentions, identify the applicable legal provisions and clarify whether the CJP demonstration will be permitted at Jantar Mantar.
