Ahmedabad Clears Encroachments on Roads and Reserved Plots

Ahmedabad encroachment demolition clears a town-planning road near urban buildings

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has removed illegal constructions and encroachments from reserved plots and town-planning roads across Naranpura, Ranip, Paldi and New Vadaj, opening sections of public land and road space in the city. The drive also covered the eastern zone, where sheds were removed, vehicles were locked and administrative charges of ₹26,900 were collected.

In Naranpura, the civic body acted on Reserved Final Plot No. 592 under the second variation of Town Planning Scheme No. 29. Six permanent commercial shop structures occupying about 350 square metres at Rannapark were demolished, after which the corporation took possession of the reserved plot.

The action in Ranip covered Final Plot No. 295/1 under Preliminary Town Planning Scheme No. 66, covering Ranip, Chenpur and Chandlodia. The plot measures 2,804 square metres. Nineteen kutcha and pucca houses were removed from the site and possession of the reserved plot was taken by the corporation.

In Paldi, the enforcement drive targeted encroachments along the 12-metre town-planning road leading to Shreyas Metro Station near the Ganesh Awas Yojana area of Bhudarpura. Around 60 to 65 kutcha and pucca huts and houses were removed. The operation opened approximately 60 metres of the road, according to the report.

The civic body also removed a permanent ramp-like structure measuring around 15 square metres from an 18-metre town-planning road between Shantaram Hall and Nirnaynagar in New Vadaj. The action opened about 10 metres of the road for public use.

The four locations show the different types of public-space encroachment being addressed by the corporation: commercial structures on reserved land, residential structures on reserved plots, informal and permanent housing along planned road alignments, and smaller constructions that obstruct designated road space. In each case, the municipal action was linked to the implementation of a town-planning scheme or the recovery of land earmarked for public purposes.

In the eastern zone, the corporation removed six sheds and seized a range of goods, including 31 handcarts, one vehicle, one cart, 15 weighing scales, 30 crates, 10 cots, 45 boards or banners and 125 miscellaneous items. The enforcement team collected ₹7,000 towards encroachment-related charges and ₹2,500 for unauthorised advertising.

The corporation also locked 41 vehicles and collected ₹17,400 in administrative charges for that action. Together with the other charges, the total amount collected in the eastern zone was ₹26,900. The report did not specify the subsequent rehabilitation, compensation or resettlement arrangements for households affected by the demolitions.
