Students of Government Medical College, Jagtial, have called off their protest after Telangana government authorities, the project contractor and student representatives signed a written agreement setting deadlines for completing and handing over the campus infrastructure. The agreement was signed on October 9, following an agitation over delays to the permanent college building, hostels and other essential facilities.
The agreement was signed by the chief engineer of the roads and buildings department, representatives of Vensa Infrastructure Limited and student representatives. The students said the written schedule addressed their demands for time-bound commitments instead of further assurances without completion dates.
Under the agreement, the boys’ and girls’ hostel facilities are to be handed over to the college administration by November 25, 2026. The permanent college building, excluding the administrative D block, is scheduled for completion and handover by December 9.
The academic building handover is expected to include lecture halls with centralised air-conditioning and fully equipped departmental laboratories. These facilities are central to the functioning of a medical college, where teaching, laboratory training and clinical education depend on usable academic and residential infrastructure.
The sports ground is scheduled to be completed by the first week of January 2027. The remaining campus works, including the administrative block, internal roads, drainage system and landscaping, are to be completed by the second week of February 2027.
The protest began on October 7 and continued until Thursday, according to earlier reports. Students had sought the completion of hostels, academic buildings, a playground and other basic amenities. Their central demand was for a clear implementation schedule covering the works that remained pending on the campus.
After the agreement was signed, the student body announced the withdrawal of the protest and said students would resume academic and clinical duties with immediate effect. The students also thanked their peers for maintaining unity and discipline during the peaceful agitation and acknowledged the support of T-JUDA, HRDA and government officials.
The agreement places several campus infrastructure milestones within a four-month period, beginning with the hostel handover in November and ending with the completion of the remaining works in February 2027. The next stated milestone is the scheduled handover of the boys’ and girls’ hostels to the college administration by November 25, 2026.
