Delhi-Gurugram Border Traffic Jam Traps Thousands Before CJP Protest

Delhi Gurugram border traffic jam with vehicles queued near Sarhaul amid police barricades

A severe traffic jam at the Delhi-Gurugram border stranded thousands of vehicles late Friday night as security was tightened and barricades were installed ahead of a proposed CJP protest in Delhi, disrupting movement between the two cities during the evening peak period.

Long queues were reported at the Sarhaul border, while traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and the road from Guru Dronacharya Metro station towards the Aaya Nagar border moved slowly. The Delhi side of the Sarhaul border also remained congested, leaving commuters travelling between Delhi and Gurugram facing extended delays.

The disruption was reported at around 10.30 pm on Friday. According to the report, police barricading and additional security arrangements linked to the proposed demonstration affected vehicular movement across the border. Traffic was also slow on the Delhi-Noida route between Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar, where peak-hour pressure and route changes added to congestion.

The affected commuters included people returning home from work, with vehicles reported to be either stranded or moving at a very slow pace on several major roads. The disruption highlights the dependence of daily travel between Delhi and Gurugram on a limited number of heavily used border crossings and arterial routes, where security diversions can quickly create spillback across adjoining road networks.

Delhi Traffic Police has warned that traffic may be affected on October 10 at 30 key locations and surrounding roads because of the CJP demonstration. Possible diversion measures may be introduced from 6 am, depending on the situation. The locations listed in the advisory include the Dhaula Kuan flyover, Mandi House, Jhandewalan, Panchkuian Road, Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Parliament Street and Jantar Mantar Road.

The advisory covers several roads in central Delhi that connect commercial areas, government districts, transit points and major public destinations. Changes on these routes could affect journeys beyond the immediate protest area, particularly for commuters travelling towards railway stations, bus terminals and the airport.

Delhi Traffic Police has advised residents to avoid non-essential travel and check traffic conditions before leaving home. People travelling to railway stations, bus stands and the airport have been asked to allow additional time. Traffic updates are available through the Delhi Traffic Police website, traffic.delhipolice.gov.in, and its helpline at 1095.

The police have not announced a fixed diversion pattern in the supplied advisory; route changes will be implemented according to traffic conditions and the security situation. Commuters have been asked to follow further updates before beginning their journeys on October 10.
