Delhi Schools Move Classes Online as Protest Disrupts Metro Plans

Delhi school schedule changes as Metro restrictions affect students near central Delhi

Several Delhi schools and colleges have changed schedules for October 10, moving classes online, postponing examinations and rescheduling parent-teacher meetings as security arrangements and anticipated Metro disruptions linked to a protest at Jantar Mantar affect movement across central Delhi.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate informed parents that classes VI to XII would be conducted online on Saturday because of extensive barricading in the New Delhi area and concerns over student safety. The school also suspended its Friday stay-back facility and postponed the inauguration of its Activity Week, which had been scheduled for Saturday.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on Kasturba Gandhi Marg cancelled sports day practice and enrichment classes for students in classes IX to XII that were scheduled for Saturday. Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School in central Delhi postponed its parent-teacher meeting, at which report cards were to be discussed. The school said a revised schedule would be announced later.

Colleges have also revised examination arrangements. Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar rescheduled Saturday’s mid-term examinations to Monday, citing anticipated closure of entry and exit gates at several Metro stations and possible service disruptions. The examination timings will remain unchanged.

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini deferred its Saturday mid-term examinations to October 12 after receiving a communication from Delhi Police regarding expected Metro restrictions. The changes reflect the way security measures and public transport disruptions can affect institutions located far from the protest site, particularly when students and staff depend on the Metro for daily travel.

The schedule changes cover regular classes, examinations, school activities and parent-teacher meetings. The affected institutions have communicated revised arrangements to students and parents, while some have indicated that replacement dates for postponed activities will be announced separately.
