Mysuru Panchayat Reservation List Opens Window for Objections

Mysuru panchayat reservation list covering rural local-body constituencies in Karnataka

The Mysuru panchayat reservation list for 46 Zilla Panchayat constituencies and 163 Taluk Panchayat seats across nine taluks has been published in draft form, with residents and stakeholders allowed to file objections until 5 pm on October 19.

The draft notification was issued by the Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department on Friday. Objections must be submitted with supporting documents to the Secretary of the Panchayat Raj Department at the Multi-Storeyed Building, third stage, third floor, Dr Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru–560001.

The reservation categories cover Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and women, in addition to general seats. The department had issued a preliminary notification for the overall reservation of Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat seats on October 7. The latest publication provides the constituency-wise draft allocation and begins the period during which objections can be submitted.

At the Zilla Panchayat level, constituencies such as Udbur, Kalale, Hunasavadi and Antarasanthe have been assigned Scheduled Tribe reservations, with some reserved for women. Harohalli (Mellahalli), Turuganur, Sosale, Tippur, Kopp and Mullur are among the constituencies assigned Scheduled Caste categories. Several seats, including Somanathapura, Hullahalli, Badanavalu, Doddakavalande, Hadanaru and Ravandur, have been marked as general women’s constituencies. The list also includes Backward Class A and Backward Class B reservations.

The draft covers the nine Taluk Panchayats of Mysuru, T Narasipur, Nanjangud, Hunsur, K R Nagar, Saligrama, Periyapatna, H D Kote and Saragur. At the Taluk Panchayat level, the categories vary across constituencies within each taluk. In Mysuru taluk, for example, Udbur is reserved for a Scheduled Tribe woman, while Ilavala is assigned Backward Class A for women. Constituencies including Dura, Yadakola and Harohalli also carry Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe reservations.

In T Narasipur, several constituencies have been assigned Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories, including Somanathapura, Hegguru, Sosale, Kaveripura and Hemmige. Nanjangud’s draft list includes reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes across constituencies such as Hadiyala, Hullahalli, Kalale, Koodlapura and Dodda Kavalande.

The reservation classification will affect who can contest from individual constituencies in the eventual rural local-body election process. It also determines the representation framework for panchayat institutions responsible for local development and rural public administration. However, the list remains provisional at this stage, and the department has invited objections before finalising the allocation.

Objections must reach the Panchayat Raj Department by the October 19 deadline and must include supporting documents. The department’s next step will be to examine the submissions before issuing the final reservation notification.
