Mumbai local train services on the Western Railway network will operate with changes during a four-hour night block between Mahim and Mumbai Central in the intervening night of October 10 and 11, as the railway carries out maintenance on tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment.
The block will be in force from 12:25 am to 4:25 am, according to a statement issued by Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek. During this period, all fast-line trains will be diverted to the slow lines between Andheri or Santacruz and Churchgate.
The diversion means that suburban services using the fast lines on this section will operate on the slow lines while maintenance work is carried out. Western Railway has advised passengers to take note of the change and plan their journeys accordingly.
The affected section covers a critical part of Mumbai’s western suburban railway corridor, where local trains connect densely populated residential areas with employment and commercial districts. Although the block is scheduled overnight, passengers travelling during the window may experience changes to the normal pattern of fast and slow services.
Western Railway said the work is intended to maintain tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment on the suburban section. These systems support the safe movement and regulation of trains, and scheduled blocks allow railway teams to undertake maintenance when regular passenger operations are limited.
The announcement comes alongside separate changes to some long-distance train services between Mumbai, Delhi and other northern destinations. Western Railway rescheduled the Mumbai Central–New Delhi Rajdhani Express and the Mumbai Central–Hazrat Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express by five hours. The Mumbai Central–Hazrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express and the Bandra Terminus–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express were among the services cancelled.
Other Western Railway services listed as cancelled included the Dr Ambedkar Nagar–New Delhi Express, Indore–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, Indore–New Delhi Express and Sabarmati–New Delhi Express. Central Railway also cancelled the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express and the CSMT–New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
Railway officials attributed the long-distance changes to anticipated severe road traffic congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations on October 10, following communication from the Railway Board. Officials said several other trains on the Central and Western Railway networks reached their destinations despite disruptions linked to the planned agitation in the national capital.
Passengers using the affected local or long-distance services have been advised to check the latest train schedules before beginning their journeys. The Western Railway night block is scheduled to end at 4:25 am after the maintenance window.
