Students of Government Medical College, Jagtial, withdrew their protest on Friday after Telangana government authorities, Vensa Infrastructure Limited and student representatives signed a written agreement fixing deadlines for completing and handing over the institution’s pending campus infrastructure.
The agreement, signed on October 9, followed a protest that began on October 7 over delays in completing the permanent college campus, hostels, playground and other essential facilities. The students said the written assurances and time-bound schedule addressed their key demands and announced that they would resume academic and clinical duties with immediate effect.
Under the agreement, the boys’ and girls’ hostels are to be handed over to the college administration by November 25, 2026. The permanent college building, excluding the administrative D block, must be completed and handed over by December 9. This portion of the campus is to include lecture halls with centralised air-conditioning and fully equipped departmental laboratories.
The sports ground has been assigned a completion deadline in the first week of January 2027. The remaining campus works, including the administrative block, internal roads, drainage system and landscaping, are scheduled to be completed by the second week of February 2027.
The agreement was signed by the chief engineer of Telangana’s roads and buildings department, representatives of Vensa Infrastructure Limited and student representatives. The written commitment came after discussions between the students and government officials over the pending works. The student body had sought a clear schedule for delivery instead of further assurances without specific deadlines.
The delays had affected the availability of basic facilities at the government medical college, including student accommodation and completed academic infrastructure. The students said the agreement provided a formal handover schedule for the facilities and prompted them to call off the peaceful agitation. They also thanked fellow students for maintaining unity and discipline during the protest and acknowledged the support of T-JUDA, HRDA and government officials.
The next milestones under the agreement are the handover of both hostels by November 25, completion of the main permanent college building by December 9, the sports ground in early January and the remaining campus infrastructure by the second week of February 2027.
