Mizoram Police Restores Rs 1.06 Crore to Cybercrime Victims

Mizoram cybercrime recovery response with police officials reviewing digital fraud complaints

Mizoram Police has restored more than Rs 1.06 crore to cybercrime victims in 2026 and arrested nine alleged cybercriminals, while establishing a dedicated State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre to strengthen detection, investigation and public response across the state.

The police said the money was recovered through the Money Restoration Module and other lawful mechanisms, including court orders and action taken after investigation and due legal process. The recovery process applies to defrauded funds placed on hold in bank accounts after complaints are filed.

The State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, or S4C, was notified as a separate unit under Mizoram Police on July 27. According to the police statement, the centre will handle cybercrime detection, investigation, prosecution, mitigation, awareness and outreach. Its responsibilities will also include social media monitoring and emergency response.

The Cyber Crime Police Station arrested nine alleged cybercriminals from different parts of Mizoram during the year, the police said. The force is also coordinating with police departments in other states to investigate cases that cross state boundaries, an increasingly important administrative requirement in online fraud cases involving accounts, devices and accused persons in different jurisdictions.

The police said it had acted on complaints related to indecent content published on social media platforms. These interventions resulted in the removal of several unlawful online content URLs, according to the statement. The S4C also addressed and resolved 28 grievances received through the Grievance Redressal Module.

The Grievance Redressal Module assists citizens whose bank accounts have been blocked without their knowledge or involvement in the transfer of fraudulent funds. Such account restrictions can affect access to ordinary banking services even when the account holder is not an accused person in the underlying cybercrime case.

Mizoram Police also reported a wider awareness campaign focused particularly on schools and colleges. It conducted 89 programmes during 2026, reaching 9,376 students. The police statement said regular outreach programmes were being held across the state and that more than 9,000 people had attended such sessions during the year.

The recovery figure, arrests, grievance redressal work and awareness programmes form part of the police response being consolidated under the new S4C structure. The centre is expected to continue coordinating investigation, public awareness, online content complaints and emergency cybercrime response as the state’s police units work with departments in other states.
