Delhi Internet Shutdown, 57 Metro Stations Closed for CJP Protest

Delhi internet suspension and metro restrictions around central New Delhi during a planned protest

Internet services will be suspended for 24 hours within a 4-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path intersection in New Delhi as authorities prepare for a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR. The restriction is scheduled from 10 pm on Friday, October 9, until 10 pm on Saturday, October 10.

The report said the temporary internet shutdown was approved by the Union Home Ministry and would cover a substantial area around the protest site. The restriction comes alongside measures affecting metro services, railway operations and commercial establishments in Connaught Place.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation services will be affected at 57 stations from 9 pm on Friday until Saturday, the report said. The closure follows a request from the Delhi Police to the DMRC in view of the planned demonstration. The report linked the protest to demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The affected area includes key central Delhi destinations and transport connections. The report also said that Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations would remain closed from 9 pm on Friday until 10 pm on Saturday. Several trains arriving at railway stations in Delhi have also reportedly been cancelled as a precautionary measure.

Commercial activity in Connaught Place is expected to be disrupted. The New Delhi Traders Association has advised that shops, offices, restaurants and other commercial establishments in the central business district remain closed on Saturday. Association president Atul Bhargava said the advisory was issued in view of prevailing conditions and instructions from authorities.

The traders’ advisory asked people to remain alert and follow the directions issued to avoid any untoward incident. The closure will affect one of New Delhi’s most prominent retail, dining and office districts, where businesses typically depend on metro connectivity and high volumes of pedestrian movement.

Authorities have also imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in the New Delhi area. Delhi Police has warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found violating law-and-order restrictions, according to the report.

The combined measures mean that residents, commuters, visitors and businesses in central New Delhi will face restrictions across digital connectivity, public transport and commercial access during the protest period. The internet suspension is scheduled to end at 10 pm on Saturday, while the reported metro and Namo Bharat station closures are tied to the same security window.
