DTC bus diversions and route controls will be implemented across parts of New Delhi from 5 am on October 10 in view of planned protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district, according to a Delhi Police letter to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
The letter, issued on October 8, was sent by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-1 Manjeet to the DTC general manager. It requested the corporation to regulate bus operations on affected routes and arrange diversions wherever required in coordination with the police.
The proposed demonstrations are being organised by the CJP and other organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police said the programmes could draw a large number of participants and create a law-and-order challenge in central Delhi. The planned measures cover protests, sit-ins and other protest activities scheduled at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the district.
The route restrictions and diversions have been requested from 5 am on October 10 until conditions return to normal. The police communication does not specify a fixed end time, leaving the duration of individual diversions dependent on the situation on the ground and the instructions issued by traffic and security personnel.
The DTC has been asked to keep an adequate number of buses and staff available so that public transport services can continue as far as conditions permit. Bus drivers, conductors and other relevant employees will be required to follow police directions related to traffic movement and security while operating in or near the affected areas.
Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations, including designated VIP areas, will receive particular attention under the traffic-management arrangement. The police said coordination with the DTC is intended to keep traffic moving, facilitate public movement and support the maintenance of law and order during the demonstrations.
For operational coordination, the letter provided the New Delhi district control room numbers 23362229 and 8750870599. The DTC has also been asked to issue instructions to the officials concerned and provide the necessary cooperation to the police.
The measures are part of a wider security and traffic response to the October 10 mobilisation. Separate reports cited by Jagran said the proposed demonstrations could also affect movement and commercial activity around central Delhi, including Connaught Place. The police letter, however, specifically addresses DTC operations and asks the corporation to make route-level changes according to conditions at affected locations.
Commuters using buses through Jantar Mantar, central New Delhi and nearby sensitive areas may therefore face altered routes or controlled operations during the protest period. The final pattern of diversions will depend on police instructions and the point at which authorities declare the situation normal.
