Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations in Delhi will remain closed from 9 pm on October 9 to 10 pm on October 10 during a scheduled Cockroach Janta Party protest, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation has announced.
The closure will affect the two Delhi stations on the 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. NCRTC said train services between Anand Vihar in Delhi and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh will continue to operate according to their regular schedule during the closure period.
In its advisory, NCRTC asked passengers who need to use Sarai Kale Khan or New Ashok Nagar to plan their journeys and make alternative arrangements. The corporation said the two stations would remain closed from 9:00 pm on October 9, 2026, until 10:00 pm on October 10, 2026.
“During this period, Namo Bharat train services between Anand Vihar (Delhi) and Modipuram (UP) stations will continue to operate unhindered as per schedule,” NCRTC said in the statement cited by The Indian Express.
The advisory means passengers will still be able to use the operating section between Anand Vihar and Modipuram, but will not be able to board or exit at Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar while those stations are closed. NCRTC has not announced any change to the published train schedule in the supplied advisory.
The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor is the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System and was built at a cost of around Rs 30,000 crore. It connects Delhi with Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and has stations serving areas including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad and Modinagar.
The corridor is designed for high-frequency regional travel, with trains operating at intervals of about eight to 10 minutes, according to the information supplied in the report. It has a design speed of 180 kmph and an average operating speed of 90 kmph. Travel between Delhi and Meerut takes less than an hour, while fares range from Rs 20 to Rs 210. Premium coach fares are around 20 per cent higher than standard fares.
The temporary closure comes as the corridor serves commuters travelling between Delhi and satellite urban centres in Uttar Pradesh. Passengers using either of the affected stations will need to check access arrangements before beginning their journey during the closure window. NCRTC’s stated plan is to keep services between Anand Vihar and Modinagar operating as scheduled while the two Delhi stations remain shut.
