Bengaluru traffic diversion measures will be in force on Basavanagar Main Road for 20 days from October 10 as bridge construction begins across a canal connected to Vibhutipura Lake. The restrictions will affect heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses, light goods vehicles and other traffic using routes between Basavanagar, HAL, Vibhutipura, Marathahalli, Vignananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML.
The work is being taken up by the Greater Bengaluru Authority in the jurisdiction of the HAL Airport Traffic Police Station. During the construction period, heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles travelling from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhutipura and Basavanagar towards Vignananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML will not be allowed to use the affected stretch.
These vehicles have been directed to take the Old Airport Main Road and turn right at the Suranjandas Road Bridge Junction. They must then proceed along Suranjandas Road to the BEML Junction, turn right and continue on Malleshpalya Main Road towards Vignananagar and Kaggadasapura.
Traffic travelling in the opposite direction—from Vignananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli—will also face restrictions. All vehicles on this side have been directed to use Malleshpalya Main Road and reach BEML Junction.
At BEML Junction, vehicles must turn left towards Suranjandas Road, continue to the Suranjandas Junction and turn left. They can then use Old Airport Road to reach Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli.
The diversion is intended to facilitate construction of the bridge across the Vibhutipura Lake canal. The restrictions will remain in place for the announced 20-day construction period, with traffic required to follow the designated alternative routes.
