MPSC Protest Escalates in Pune as Police Ask Students to Clear Site

MPSC protest Pune with students gathered near a police vehicle using a loudspeaker

The MPSC protest in Pune intensified on Thursday evening after police used a loudspeaker from a police van to ask students and other protesters to vacate the site, while MLA Rohit Pawar refused to call off the agitation until their demands are addressed.

A large number of Maharashtra Public Service Commission examination aspirants have gathered at the protest location. Police made repeated appeals for the protesters to clear the area, citing the possibility of traffic congestion and inconvenience to citizens caused by the ongoing agitation.

The appeals created unease among protesters, who said they should not be asked to leave without a response to the concerns that led to the demonstration. The agitation has focused on demands related to transparency in MPSC examinations, examination procedures, recruitment to vacant posts and the functioning of the commission.

Pawar has maintained that the protest will continue until concrete decisions are taken on the students’ demands. His position means that the dispute remains unresolved even as the police seek to manage the impact of the gathering on movement through the area.

The developments place the administration between two immediate responsibilities: maintaining public movement around the protest site and responding to the examination-related concerns raised by students. The presence of a large group of competitive examination aspirants has also made the location a focal point for wider concerns about recruitment and the conduct of public examinations in Maharashtra.

The police action, as reported by Punekar News, was limited to repeated requests through a police vehicle loudspeaker to vacate the site. The report does not mention any arrests, use of force or formal order ending the protest. It also does not state that the students’ demands have been accepted or rejected by the administration.

The next round of discussions between the administration and the protesters is expected to be important in determining whether the agitation continues at the site. Until those discussions produce concrete decisions, the protest is likely to remain both a public-order issue for Pune authorities and an unresolved examination and recruitment concern for the students involved.
