Bengaluru’s Ejipura flyover is expected to open to traffic by the end of December, with about 80% of the main project now complete after nearly a decade of delays, officials said. The 5.45-km flyover will connect the Kendriya Sadan junction to Ejipura signal through Sony World junction and is one of the city’s largest elevated road projects.
The project has entered its final construction phase, with ramp work reported to be complete and the installation of crash barriers under way. Casting of the pre-cast segments, a key stage of the flyover’s construction, has also been completed. Installation of seven spans along the elevated corridor remains pending.
Officials said the ramps being built on the Indiranagar and Madiwala sides are also nearing completion. These ramps are intended to help vehicles enter and exit the flyover more smoothly, connecting the elevated road with the surrounding road network.
The project’s latest timeline follows a change in contractor and prolonged delays linked to land acquisition. Simplex Infrastructures Limited, the earlier contractor, had achieved 42.80% physical progress when its contract was terminated on a risk-and-cost basis in March 2022, following directions from the Karnataka High Court. The work was subsequently awarded to BSCPL Infrastructure Private Limited in November 2023.
Land acquisition near St John’s Hospital had emerged as a major obstacle to completing the flyover. According to officials, Minister and BTM Layout MLA Ramalinga Reddy held repeated meetings with the hospital management and secured its cooperation in the public interest. Construction in this section began in February 2026.
The project had previously been expected to be completed by the end of October 2026. Chief Engineer Raghavendra Prasad had stated in May that the flyover would be opened within that deadline. However, the latest report indicates that the October target is unlikely to be met and that the opening of the main flyover has now been pushed to the end of December.
A separate delay concerns additional approach ramps from Sarjapur Road and St John’s Hospital Road. These up-ramps were added to the project later, and pillars have been built where space was available. However, land acquisition for the remaining work has not been completed. Although the hospital management has reportedly agreed to the process, Greater Bengaluru Authority officials have cited technical reasons for the delay in issuing transferable development rights.
Officials indicated that completing this additional work could take another year. The main Ejipura flyover, however, is expected to carry traffic by the end of December, subject to completion of the remaining spans, safety barriers and associated works.
