Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have deployed more than 20,000 personnel across the national capital ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest scheduled for October 10, with authorities warning that no permission has been granted for a gathering at Jantar Mantar.
A senior police officer said the deployment was a precautionary measure intended to prevent any breach of peace and maintain the smooth movement of people and traffic. The officer appealed to residents and potential protesters to avoid participating in any unauthorised gathering.
“ We are well prepared and motivated to handle the law-and-order situation in the city on Saturday. No permission has been granted so far for any protest at Jantar Mantar,” the officer said.
Prohibitory orders are already in force in the area, according to the police. Authorities have asked members of the public to comply with the restrictions and maintain peace during the protest period. The deployment is expected to affect security arrangements and movement around central Delhi, although the police statement did not provide details of specific road closures, diversions or station restrictions.
The police also warned protesters and residents against violence, including attacks on personnel deployed for security duties. “We appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not attack police personnel. Any such act is a crime and strict legal action will be taken against those found involved,” the officer said.
Special instructions have been issued to police personnel on handling women protesters, with officers told to avoid unnecessary confrontation. Daily briefings are being conducted to ensure that personnel involved in the operation follow a common set of instructions, the officer said.
The police have also cautioned residents against believing or circulating unverified information on social media. The officer asked people to rely on Delhi Police’s official social media handles and verified communication channels for updates, rather than forwarding material seen online.
The Cockroach Janata Party and several student groups are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. According to the report, the groups have levelled allegations that lakhs of voters were deleted across the country in the name of the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The supplied report does not include a response from the Chief Election Commissioner or details of the groups’ formal permission request.
The police have not announced a change to the stated restriction on a Jantar Mantar protest. The immediate operational focus remains maintaining public order, protecting deployed personnel and ensuring the movement of people and traffic during the scheduled protest on October 10.
