More than two crore electors left out of Maharashtra’s draft voter roll can still seek inclusion before the October 12 deadline, with special camps scheduled at polling stations across the state on October 10 and 11.

The draft electoral roll, published on August 31 under the Special Intensive Revision, excluded 2.07 crore of the 9.78 crore electors on the pre-revision roll because enumeration forms could not be collected. The figure is not the final count of deletions, and eligible voters can still file claims for inclusion.

The categories recorded during the house-to-house exercise included 34.81 lakh people marked dead, 75.52 lakh listed as absent or not found and 76.80 lakh recorded as permanently shifted. Another 17.63 lakh electors were classified as already enrolled elsewhere or as duplicate entries, while 2.23 lakh were placed under “others”. These classifications do not automatically establish that an elector is ineligible or will be excluded from the final roll.

The Chief Electoral Officer’s website provides a name-search facility and an ASDD list covering electors marked Absent/Not Found, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate. Voters can also contact their Booth Level Officer, visit an Assembly constituency help desk or call the election helpline on 1950.

Booth Level Officers are visiting homes to identify eligible voters missing from the draft roll. After checking eligibility, they are collecting Form 6, which is used to seek inclusion in the electoral roll. According to official data cited by Indian Express, election authorities received 6,24,054 applications between August 31 and October 4. These included 6,05,097 Form 6 applications, 11,251 Form 7 applications and 7,706 Form 8 applications.

Form 7 is used to object to an entry or seek deletion of a name, while Form 8 is used to correct or modify an existing entry, including a change of address. Voters who have shifted residence should check whether their name is missing altogether or remains on the roll at the previous address before choosing the relevant form.

Applications can be submitted offline to the Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, Booth Level Officer or designated polling stations until October 12. Online applications are available through the Election Commission’s Voters’ Service Portal and the ECINET mobile app. Students can also approach special registration camps being held at colleges and universities across Maharashtra from October 5 to 9. The qualifying date for this revision is October 1, 2026.

The election authorities are separately handling 1.22 crore voters who are already listed in the draft roll but have been flagged for verification. Of these, 62.48 lakh have discrepancies involving relatives in the earlier roll and 59.76 lakh could not be mapped to a relative in the previous roll.

Voters who receive “No Mapping” or “Logical Discrepancy” notices can submit the required documents to their BLO, including through WhatsApp under revised instructions cited by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. BLOs may visit homes to verify the documents. Physical hearings are expected only in exceptional cases where the matter cannot be decided from the submitted documents and verification report.

The two processes should not be confused: a voter missing from the draft roll must seek inclusion, while a voter already listed but issued a notice must respond to the verification request. Claims and objections close on October 12. Under the revised schedule, notices, claims and objections are to be disposed of by November 12, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 16.
