Two women were injured after an LPG cylinder leakage caused a blast at a house in New Vaddem, Vasco, early Thursday, with both victims shifted to Goa Medical College in Bambolim for treatment, police said.
The injured women were identified as Hema Godchi, 37, and Sumitra Kambi, 27. The two were residing in a house adjacent to a shop near the New Vaddem bus stop when the incident was reported at around 4 am.
Godchi suffered burn injuries over approximately 20% of her body, while Kambi sustained around 30% burns, according to the police details cited in the report. Both women were taken to GMC Bambolim for medical care.
The blast occurred in a section of the house where children usually slept. They had been moved to another room and escaped unhurt, according to the report. The incident highlights the immediate safety risks that LPG leakage can create in closely built residential areas, particularly in homes located beside commercial premises.
The reported location near the New Vaddem bus stop places the incident in a busy urban setting where residential structures and shops operate close to one another. In such areas, a household gas leak can affect not only the occupants of a single dwelling but also neighbouring families, workers and people using nearby public spaces.
The report did not provide details on the condition of the building after the blast, whether the adjoining shop was damaged, or whether a formal inspection had been ordered. It also did not specify the source of the leakage or the circumstances in which the gas ignited. Those details would be necessary to establish the precise cause and assess whether any wider safety action is required.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar assured compensation for the victims’ family from the chief minister’s relief fund. The report did not specify the amount or the process through which the compensation would be released.
The injured women remain under treatment at GMC Bambolim. Further official information on their medical condition, the cause of the leakage and any inspection or follow-up action was not available in the supplied report.
