Telangana Voter Deletions Cross 12,000 After Form-7 Scrutiny

Telangana voter deletions reflected in an electoral roll revision notice at a Hyderabad election office

Telangana voter deletions have crossed 12,000 after election officials scrutinised applications submitted during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, according to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer. Of 24,323 Form-7 applications received across the state, 12,204 names were removed from the electoral rolls up to the October 7 deadline for claims and objections.

The CEO’s office said a total of 10,24,169 applications were received under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 between June 15 and October 7. Officials had disposed of 2,91,864 applications by the time the data was released. Form 6 is used for new voter registration, Form 7 for objections and deletion requests, and Form 8 for corrections or changes to entries.

Form-6 applications accounted for 4,88,417 submissions, while Form-8 applications totalled 5,05,159. Hyderabad recorded the highest number of Form-6 applications at 1,94,204 and Form-8 applications at 1,44,800. The district received 6,335 Form-7 applications, of which 2,066 resulted in deletions.

Rangareddy received 2,223 Form-7 applications, followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri with 1,749, Peddapalli with 1,737, Karimnagar with 1,390, Hanamkonda with 1,281 and Nizamabad with 1,173. Outside Hyderabad, Peddapalli and Rangareddy recorded four-digit deletions, with 1,332 and 1,122 names removed respectively.

Within Hyderabad district, Nampally recorded the highest number of deletions among the constituencies cited, with 316 names removed from 523 Form-7 applications. Jubilee Hills received 1,026 Form-7 applications, the highest figure among the constituencies mentioned, but 161 names were deleted. Khairatabad recorded 118 deletions against 172 applications.

Several constituencies outside Hyderabad also recorded comparatively high proportions of deletions against Form-7 applications, including Sirpur, Mancherial, Adilabad, Nirmal, Banswada, Nizamabad Rural, Jukkal, Yellareddy, Jagtial, Ramagundam, Sircilla, Narayankhed, Zaheerabad, Medak, Narsapur, Dubbak, Gajwel, Chevella, Pargi and Vikarabad.

The figures have prompted demands for greater public disclosure. Social activist S.A. Masood described the sharing of data as a positive development but said the complete list of deleted voters should be made public to restore public confidence. He also sought disclosure of details including the names of people who submitted the deletion requests.

Advocate M.A. Mujeeb Ayyub questioned the consistency of the data released by the CEO’s office. He said the district-wise and Assembly constituency-wise documents showed different figures for applications in Hyderabad. The district-wise sheet listed 1,94,204 Form-6 applications, compared with 1,93,135 in the Assembly-wise sheet. The corresponding Form-8 figures were 1,44,800 and 1,44,495.

The data represents applications disposed of and deletions carried out during the electoral-roll revision process up to October 7. The CEO’s office has not, in the material supplied, announced a separate timeline for publishing the full list of deleted names or responding to the discrepancies cited by activists and legal observers.
