Kochi Water Metro services on key routes will face partial cancellations on Saturday, October 10, during the Champions Boat League boat race at Marine Drive, affecting passengers travelling between the High Court Junction, Vypin, Fort Kochi, Island and Mattancherry areas.
According to a report by Malayala Manorama, the restrictions will remain in place from 10 am to 7 pm as boat-race operations take place in the Vembanad Lake area. Services on the High Court–Vypin–Fort Kochi and High Court–Island–Mattancherry routes will be partially cancelled during this period.
The restrictions are linked to the movement and safety requirements associated with the rowing event at Marine Drive. The report did not specify the number of cancelled trips or whether additional services would be operated after the event concludes.
Some routes will continue to operate under the existing schedule. Water Metro services from Mattancherry to Fort Kochi and Vypin via Willingdon Island will remain available. Services on the Chittoor–Cheranalloor and Vyttila–Kakkanad routes will also operate as scheduled.
The changes mean that passengers using the High Court Junction as an interchange may need to revise their travel plans during the seven-hour restriction window. Commuters and visitors heading towards Fort Kochi, Vypin, Island and Mattancherry may need to use the available Mattancherry connection or make alternative arrangements, depending on their destination.
The temporary adjustment highlights the operational dependence of water-based public transport on events and activities in shared waterways. Unlike fixed rail infrastructure, water transit routes can require short-term changes when navigation areas are reserved for sporting, ceremonial or safety-related operations.
Passengers using the affected routes on October 10 are advised to check service availability before beginning their journey. The available services on the Mattancherry–Willingdon Island–Fort Kochi/Vypin, Chittoor–Cheranalloor and Vyttila–Kakkanad routes are expected to follow their existing schedules.
