Kolkata Metro Adds Late-Night Puja Services From Panchami

Kolkata Metro Puja services operating late at night on a busy city route

Kolkata Metro will run additional and extended services on the Blue and Green lines during Durga Puja, beginning on Panchami and continuing through Dashami to manage the city’s expected festival travel demand. The revised schedule covers the Blue Line between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar and the Green Line between Howrah Maidan and Sector V in Salt Lake.

On Panchami and Sasthi, trains on both corridors will operate from 6 am to 11 pm. The extended schedule is intended to give passengers earlier access to the network and later return options during the initial days of the festival, when movement across Kolkata increases significantly.

From Saptami to Navami, the Blue Line will run from 1 pm until 4 am. The source report notes that Saptami falls across two days this year, making the extended operation applicable over four days. On the Green Line, services during the same period will run from 1.30 pm until 3.59 am.

The timing changes create a substantial late-night window on both corridors. The Blue Line will connect southern parts of the city with Dakshineswar until the early hours, while the Green Line will link Howrah Maidan with the Sector V area during the night-time festival period. The announcement does not specify the frequency of trains or the number of additional services to be operated under the revised schedule.

On Dashami, October 21, the Blue Line will operate from 1 pm to 11.30 pm. The Green Line’s East-West route will run from 1.30 pm to 11.30 pm on the same day. These timings are shorter than the overnight schedule planned from Saptami to Navami but extend beyond the regular daytime festival window to support travel on the final day of the celebrations.

The service plan places the Metro at the centre of Kolkata’s festival mobility arrangements, particularly for journeys that continue late into the night. Passengers using the network will need to distinguish between the schedules for Panchami and Sasthi, the four-day Saptami-to-Navami period and Dashami, as operating hours differ across both lines and across festival days.

According to the published schedule, the Blue Line will receive the longest overnight extension during Saptami to Navami, while the Green Line will operate until 3.59 am. The final service changes will take effect on Dashami, when both corridors will close at 11.30 pm. No further operational details were provided in the report.
