Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has ordered advance arrangements for Bathukamma celebrations, placing sanitation, lighting, drinking water, traffic regulation and public safety at the centre of its preparations as large crowds are expected at venues across the civic body’s jurisdiction.
Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy issued the directions at a coordination meeting with officials from key municipal departments on Thursday. The review covered sanitation, road maintenance, street lighting, drinking water supply, public amenities, traffic management, waste collection and cleanliness in parks and areas surrounding the celebration venues.
According to a press release, officials have been instructed to take proactive measures to prevent inconvenience to women, families and devotees attending the festivities. The civic body said sanitation operations must continue before, during and after the celebrations, rather than being limited to the duration of individual events.
Special sanitation staff are to be deployed at venues for immediate waste collection and removal. Additional sanitation measures will be introduced wherever required, while officials have been asked to monitor cleanliness at parks and surrounding areas. The directions are intended to address the increased volume of waste and public movement expected during the festival.
Reddy also directed officials to ensure essential infrastructure, adequate lighting, drinking water and sanitation facilities at the venues. Staff are expected to remain present at the locations and continuously monitor the situation during the celebrations. The instructions include ensuring facilities for women, families and devotees using the event spaces.
Traffic management is another component of the civic body’s preparations. Officials have been asked to regulate vehicle movement and maintain smooth traffic flow in areas likely to experience increased movement during the festivities. Public safety arrangements are also to be made at locations where crowd levels are expected to rise.
The commissioner directed all municipal departments to coordinate their work for the smooth conduct of the events. The civic body’s preparations will therefore depend on the simultaneous deployment of sanitation, engineering, lighting, water-supply, traffic and public-safety personnel at celebration venues and their surrounding areas.
