Gujarat’s Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department will organise industrial recruitment fairs across 13 clusters, including the Ahmedabad region, to connect local job seekers with companies and industrial units closer to their homes. The programme will be conducted at a reported cost of Rs 73.12 lakh and is intended to improve access to employment for young people across the state.
The cluster-based fairs will bring candidates and employers together at common venues, reducing the need for applicants to travel long distances to find work. The planning will take geographical convenience and transport access into account so that candidates can travel more easily between nearby districts.
The Ahmedabad region will include clusters covering Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Banaskantha. The Rajkot region will include Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Kutch-Bhuj and Rajkot, while the Surat region will cover Surat, Valsad and Bharuch. The Vadodara region will include Vadodara and Godhra. The newly formed Vav-Tharad district will also be included in the programme.
According to the report, the cluster boundaries have been designed to include nearby districts where candidates can reach recruitment venues more conveniently. The fairs will give priority to industrial sectors that are strongly developed in each district and are capable of generating substantial local employment.
The department’s approach links recruitment planning to the existing industrial profile of each area rather than treating the state as a single labour market. Companies and industrial units operating in a cluster will be able to meet candidates with different educational qualifications at one location. The stated objective is to maximise employment opportunities by placing employers and applicants together through a coordinated process.
The programme is also significant for districts where industrial activity is expanding but access to employment information and recruitment networks may remain uneven. Holding fairs at cluster level could make participation easier for candidates who may not be able to travel to major urban centres for every hiring process. However, the report does not provide details of the participating companies, the number of vacancies, the specific venues or the dates for individual fairs.
The cluster-wise industrial recruitment fairs are expected to begin shortly, with the department set to announce the programme’s implementation schedule and arrangements for the participating districts.
