Noida Drain Incident Turns Fatal After Overnight Rescue Search

Rescue teams search a drain near Noida Sector 81 after a fatal Noida drain incident

A 29-year-old man died after falling into a drain near Noida Sector 81 Metro station following an argument with his wife, with police, fire service, SDRF and NDRF teams conducting an overnight search before recovering his body on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at around 8.30 pm, according to the report. The man, identified by police as Ravi, was found in the drain at approximately 6 am after several hours of searching. The Sector 39 police station and fire service teams reached the location after receiving information through Dial-112.

Police said Ravi was originally from Jainpura village in the Jalesar police station area of Etah district and was living in Harola, within the jurisdiction of the Phase 1 police station area. His body was sent for post-mortem examination after it was removed from the drain.

The preliminary police inquiry indicated that Ravi had argued with his wife over alcohol consumption before leaving home. Police said he later reached the area near the Sector 81 Metro station and jumped into the drain following the argument. The report said the exact circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation.

The rescue operation was complicated by the depth of the drain and the speed of the water flow. Fire service personnel entered the drain with safety equipment and searched multiple locations, while police officers remained at the site and supervised the operation. Local residents informed the authorities after witnessing or learning about the incident.

As the search continued into the night, teams from the State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force were also called in. The rescue personnel continued searching around the drain despite darkness and difficult conditions. Family members and local residents remained at the site while the operation continued.

Sector 39 station house officer D P Shukla said police had received information through Dial-112 that a man had jumped into the drain. He said police and fire service teams reached the spot immediately and began the search, with assistance from other rescue agencies.

The incident has drawn attention to the risks involved in emergency response around deep and fast-flowing urban drains, particularly after dark. In this case, the search required the combined deployment of local police, fire personnel and specialised disaster-response teams. The report did not provide details of the drain’s ownership, maintenance status, safety barriers or whether warning signage was present at the location.

Police said the post-mortem report and the findings of the ongoing investigation would determine the next course of action. Officers are examining the circumstances of the argument, Ravi’s movements after leaving home and the events leading to his entry into the drain. The authorities said the full sequence would become clear after the investigation is completed.
