Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay received civic grievance petitions from residents at his MLA office in Perambur on Wednesday, while inaugurating a new ₹2.23 crore laboratory building at the Aavin State Central Laboratory in Madhavaram and reviewing a ₹152.26 crore automated dairy project.
The Perambur MLA office has a dedicated team and an e-Seva centre to receive and process complaints, according to the report. The system is intended to route civic petitions for faster redressal, although the report did not specify the number of complaints received or the departments responsible for resolving them.
At Madhavaram, Vijay inaugurated an auxiliary building at the Aavin State Central Laboratory. The facility is equipped for drinking water and wastewater testing and is intended to operate in accordance with standards issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
The laboratory expansion places testing capacity alongside one of north Chennai’s key milk distribution facilities. Vijay also inspected the Madhavaram dairy, which handles approximately 4.5 lakh litres of milk each day and distributes milk across north Chennai using an average of 120 vehicles.
The chief minister reviewed construction of a new automated dairy at the site. The project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹152.26 crore and is designed to handle seven lakh litres of milk a day. Vijay directed officials to expedite the work, but the report did not provide a revised completion date or details of the project’s present construction stage.
The laboratory’s testing functions cover both drinking water and wastewater, linking the facility to food safety, public health and environmental compliance. However, the report did not provide details of the laboratory’s existing testing capacity, the number of samples it will process or the agencies that will receive and act on its findings.
The Madhavaram dairy’s current handling capacity of around 4.5 lakh litres a day and the proposed seven-lakh-litre automated facility indicate an expansion of milk-processing infrastructure serving north Chennai. The report did not state whether the new facility will replace existing operations, operate alongside them or alter the current distribution network.
Later in the day, Vijay attended the passing-out parade of the 14th batch of trainee deputy superintendents of police at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy. The 25 officers, including 11 women and 14 men, completed 52 weeks of training in law, investigation, police administration, internal security, intelligence, community policing, cybercrime, CCTNS and modern policing technology, along with physical and field training.
T Aneesh Pradeep received the Sword of Honour, Chief Minister’s Trophy and gold medal for overall excellence. O Karthika received the silver medal and P S Divya the bronze medal. The report said additional trophies and medals were presented to trainees who performed well in other categories. The next stated administrative step is to expedite construction of the automated dairy at Madhavaram.
