Ahmedabad’s SOG Crime Branch has arrested a 47-year-old man from the Danilimda area after allegedly recovering 89.63 grams of mephedrone, commonly known as MD drug, valued at Rs 2.68 lakh, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. Police said the seized substance was being brought from Bhilwara in Rajasthan and sold in small quantities around Narol Circle.
The accused, identified as Nasir Saiyed, was arrested near Alif Complex in Danilimda. The report said he lived at Al Mubarak Row House, where the SOG team conducted a raid following specific intelligence about the alleged possession and sale of MD drug.
During a search, police reportedly found a black bag containing 30 small plastic pouches in Saiyed’s pocket. The powder was subjected to a preliminary examination by the Forensic Science Laboratory, which identified it as mephedrone, the report said. A digital weighing scale recorded the total quantity as 89 grams and 63 milligrams.
According to the police account cited in the report, Saiyed told investigators that he had travelled to Bhilwara to obtain the drug from a supplier. He allegedly repackaged the substance into smaller zip-lock bags and sold it to users in and around Narol Circle. Police said he entered the drug trade to earn money quickly because of financial difficulties.
The seizure brings an interstate dimension to the case. While the arrest took place in Ahmedabad, the police investigation is focused partly on identifying the alleged supplier in Bhilwara and determining whether other people were involved in transporting or distributing the drug. The report did not identify the alleged supplier or provide details of any further arrests.
Police have seized the recovered substance and registered a case against Saiyed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The SOG Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the alleged supply chain and the distribution network operating around Danilimda and Narol Circle.
