Delhi Police has registered a fresh FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with other senior party leaders and workers, following a protest march in New Delhi that allegedly led to clashes with police personnel and disruption of official duties.

The case relates to Wednesday’s Congress and INDIA bloc demonstration against the Election Commission and the march towards Jantar Mantar. Police alleged protesters tried to breach a security cordon, leading to pushing, alleged misbehaviour and confrontation with officers, including women personnel.

Authorities examined video footage before registering the case, charging protesters under provisions related to obstructing public servants. Police claimed that some security personnel suffered injuries during the confrontation. Specific legal sections or FIR number details were not provided.

This FIR follows an earlier one on Tuesday concerning alleged unauthorised entry into the Akashvani Bhavan during a sit-in. Restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were reportedly in force during these events.

The latest FIR highlights the administrative complexity of managing protests in central Delhi’s tightly regulated zones, where permitted marches and unauthorised breaches are legally distinct.

Over 90 Congress leaders and workers were detained after Wednesday’s confrontation and subsequently released. The FIR marks a significant development in local protest governance and ongoing legal processes.
