Mangaluru Railway Network Joins Mysuru Division Without Disruption

The Mangaluru railway network has officially moved from Southern Railway’s Palakkad division to South Western Railway’s Mysuru division, with the administrative transfer taking effect from midnight on October 1. Railway officials said train schedules and daily operations remain unchanged, allowing passengers to continue travelling as usual.

The transition places the Mangaluru railway area under the administrative control of the Mysuru division. Officials from the division had been in the city for the previous two days to inspect local arrangements and prepare the operational systems required for the transfer.

The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is implementing changes to the operational control system as part of the shift from Palakkad to Mysuru. The Mysuru division has also installed an additional control board at its headquarters to regulate train operations in the newly added Mangaluru railway area, according to the division’s public relations officer.

For the first three months, there will be no changes to the operation of trains based at the Mangaluru coaching depot or to their primary maintenance arrangements. The existing system will continue during this initial period, officials said.

The interchange point between Southern Railway and South Western Railway has also been shifted from Padil to Ullal. The change is part of the administrative reorganisation of the railway network and does not alter the current passenger timetable, according to the report.

Mysuru division Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed inspected the arrangements and took steps to ensure that the transfer and railway operations proceeded without interruption. He visited key railway locations in the Mangaluru area, including Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru Junction, Panambur, Jokatte and Ullal.

During the inspections, officials reviewed operational systems and passenger facilities at the stations. Railway personnel were instructed to resolve operational requirements quickly and maintain continuous coordination between field-level units and the divisional office.

The administrative transfer does not immediately change the status of existing railway employees. Current staff will continue in their positions for now. A staff-transfer process may be undertaken in the next one or two months after the necessary records are examined, the report said.

Employees who have applied for transfers to the Palakkad division may receive postings there on a priority basis, depending on the availability of positions. Until all procedures are completed, salaries will continue to be paid through the Palakkad division, with the Mysuru division reimbursing that amount, according to sources cited in the report.

The immediate operational arrangements therefore remain unchanged even as administrative control shifts. The next stages will involve completing staff documentation and implementing any further internal changes required by the transfer.
