A large-scale road expansion proposal aimed at improving connectivity between Delhi-NCR and the upcoming Noida International Airport is moving into the planning phase, as authorities prepare for a sharp increase in passenger movement, freight traffic and urban growth across the Yamuna basin. The proposed corridor, expected to run alongside the river embankment between south-east Delhi and Greater Noida, is being positioned as a critical mobility alternative to the increasingly congested Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
Officials associated with the project said the existing four-lane embankment route is proposed to be widened in phases, first to six lanes and eventually into a high-capacity 10-lane corridor. The alignment is expected to begin near Sector 94 in Noida and extend towards the Gharbara area in Greater Noida, linking onward to Pari Chowk and institutional zones around Knowledge Park. Urban mobility experts say the project reflects the changing transportation demands emerging around the new airport-led development belt in western Uttar Pradesh. With large residential clusters, logistics hubs and commercial projects already under construction along the Yamuna Expressway region, planners are under pressure to create parallel transport networks before traffic volumes overwhelm existing infrastructure. The proposed Noida Airport corridor is estimated to involve an investment of nearly ₹4,300 crore, including substantial expenditure on land acquisition.
Infrastructure officials indicated that detailed traffic surveys and a Detailed Project Report are currently being prepared to determine final engineering specifications, environmental safeguards and interchange designs. Transport planners believe the corridor could significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and the airport region once integrated with other ongoing projects, including the elevated road network connecting Mayur Vihar and Mahamaya Flyover. A shorter elevated connector near the Okhla Bird Sanctuary Metro corridor is also expected to improve direct access for vehicles entering from east and south Delhi. However, environmental observers caution that large-scale expansion along the Yamuna floodplain will require careful ecological assessment. The proposed stretch cuts through a rapidly urbanising landscape already vulnerable to flooding, heat stress and declining green cover. Experts in sustainable urban planning note that transport projects of this scale must balance mobility gains with climate resilience, stormwater management and protection of natural drainage systems.
The Noida Airport corridor is also expected to reshape real estate patterns across Noida and Greater Noida. Developers have increasingly shifted focus towards mixed-use housing, warehousing and commercial investments near emerging mobility routes linked to the airport economy. Analysts say improved road connectivity could accelerate land value appreciation in peripheral sectors, while also placing greater pressure on civic infrastructure and public services. Authorities have indicated that phased execution timelines are being discussed, with broader regional integration likely to continue through 2027. As NCR’s urban footprint expands outward, the success of projects like the Noida Airport corridor may ultimately depend not only on speed and scale, but on whether transport growth can remain aligned with environmental and liveability goals.
