Hyderabad Launches New Diversions Near Novopan Junction

Daily commuters through Patancheru are set to face new movement patterns, as the Cyberabad traffic administration activated a diversion plan around Novopan Junction on NH-65 starting Sunday. The changes, triggered by ongoing Vehicle Underpass (VUP) works, are expected to continue for an extended period and underline the growing pressures of infrastructure upgrades on an already strained suburban mobility network.

The revised routes, enforced to enable construction of retaining earth (RE) walls, affect all inbound and outbound traffic between Sangareddy, the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and Patancheru. According to officials overseeing the corridor, the diversions were deemed unavoidable to maintain worksite safety and prevent gridlock on the national highway. Traffic entering Patancheru from ORR and Sangareddy is now redirected at Pocharam Kaman, pushing vehicles onto the left-side service road before rejoining the highway near the Patancheru Vegetable Market corridor. In the opposite direction, motorists travelling from Patancheru toward Sangareddy must shift to the adjoining service road from the Incor Lake City Apartments stretch and merge back onto NH-65 near the Ramky Infra Tower. Police personnel have been deployed along the service roads to regulate lane discipline and prevent bottlenecks.

Urban mobility planners note that these diversions highlight the broader challenge of widening road networks in rapidly urbanising suburbs without simultaneously investing in mass transit or safe pedestrian infrastructure. Patancheru, positioned at the western edge of the city’s industrial belt, continues to experience rising freight traffic and population growth—factors that make highway-dependent travel increasingly vulnerable to disruptions whenever major construction begins. For residents, the diversion means longer commute times and additional dependence on narrow service lanes that were never designed to absorb diverted volumes. Experts warn that without staggered construction schedules, better public information systems, and proactive congestion management, the cumulative loss of productivity could be significant. Small businesses located along the diversion routes also risk reduced accessibility during peak hours, a recurrent issue during extended infrastructure works in peripheral zones.

Officials said the present arrangement will remain in effect until the completion of the VUP structure, although no timeline has been publicly announced. The lack of a defined schedule adds to commuter uncertainty, especially for workers who must navigate this stretch daily. Traffic officers have urged motorists to plan their trips in advance and follow temporary directional boards placed along the diversions. The situation underscores Hyderabad’s broader mobility dilemma: infrastructure expansion continues at pace, but the absence of integrated public transport alternatives leaves road users disproportionately impacted whenever construction escalates. For Patancheru’s commuters, the priority now is a clear project timeline, transparent communication, and measures that minimise congestion on the service roads. As work progresses, the administration’s ability to manage the transition smoothly will determine not only the efficiency of the project but also how safely and sustainably Hyderabad adapts to ongoing upgrades across its transport network.
