Mumbai’s civic administration has accelerated work on a long-pending suburban connector project after clearing dozens of structures in Oshiwara, marking a significant step in efforts to reduce chronic congestion across key western corridor routes. The latest clearance operation linked to the Mumbai Missing Link Project is expected to support the construction of a new road connection between the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road and New Link Road, improving movement across densely populated neighbourhoods in the city’s western suburbs. Urban planners say the project highlights the growing urgency to address traffic bottlenecks in areas where population growth and vehicle dependence have consistently outpaced road infrastructure expansion.

Officials associated with the operation confirmed that residential and commercial structures occupying the proposed alignment were removed as part of the first implementation phase. The road connection is expected to improve traffic dispersal around Behram Baug and adjoining corridors, where commuters routinely face prolonged travel delays during peak hours.
