Gurugram authorities have initiated a major redesign and landscape improvement plan at one of the city’s busiest road intersections, signalling a broader push to modernise ageing transport infrastructure while addressing persistent traffic congestion across the NCR’s rapidly expanding urban corridors.

The redevelopment effort is centred on the Lieutenant Atul Kataria Chowk junction along Old Delhi Road, a critical intersection linking central Gurugram with Delhi, the Jaipur highway corridor and older residential districts. Urban planners say the move reflects growing pressure on civic agencies to upgrade mobility infrastructure in densely populated city zones where traffic volumes have surged faster than road capacity. Officials involved in the project indicated that the junction redesign combines mobility management with urban greening measures. The plan includes new lane arrangements, improved traffic signalling systems, pedestrian-friendly landscaping and upgraded lighting infrastructure intended to improve visibility and reduce bottlenecks during peak commuting hours.
